Spiritbeads®…..Stringing Intentions For Your Life

About Deborah Joy

Many years ago, there was a compassionate nurse who married a business manager with artistic flair. With the birth of their daughter, Deborah, the spirit of healing art was also born.

From the time she was eight years old, Deborah can remember having an artist’s perspective. Life’s journey carried her in alternate directions, but her artistic spirit never waned. Driven by this inner vision, her pursuit of artistic studies earned Deborah a BA in Fine Art from George Washington University, where she also studied human psychology.

She is certified in Botanical Art and Illustration by the Corcoran School of Art, and gives workshops in color symbolism, theory and beading throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. An active member of the Society for Art in Healthcare, Deborah conducts workshops for patients, their families and staff at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University Hospital, as well as at the Fairfax Inova Hospital in Virginia.

Deborah Gudelsky has always inherently spoken the language of color, but how that would translate into unique and healing art was not revealed to her until later in life.

But what events lined up for Deborah that led her to create this distinctive company? Click here to read the full story…

The SpiritBeads program gives our patients and caregivers an accessible way to be creative. Selecting beads with intention enables participants to affirm their identity and create a unique icon that represents their thoughts, feelings and beliefs in a personal and private way. The finished product is a source of great pride and comfort. Patients carry their beads with them, display them on infusion poles, grasp them tightly during difficult procedures, and glow with pride when asked to display them.- Nancy Morgan, Director of the Lombardi Arts and Humanities Program Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University Hospital
